About Medilite
Medilite Weight Management has been running in Cork for the past five years and has seen many people lose weight and blossom. Medilite staff work closely with a number of Cork GP’s and receives referrals daily
Over a third of the Irish adult population is overweight or obese. Obesity, defined as an excess accumulation of body fat, is a serious health condition.
Medical Problems
In comparison with normal weight counterparts, medically overweight (20% or more above Ideal Body Weight) persons have a higher incidence of medical problems.
- Being medically overweight is the number one risk factor for diabetes mellitus.
- Being medically overweight increases the risk of hypertension.
- Being medically overweight increases the risk of certain cancers. Specifically, cancer of the colon, rectum and prostate for men, and gall bladder, biliary tract, breast, uterine and ovarian cancer for women.
- Being medically overweight in pregnancy results in twice the normal risk of giving birth to a child with neurological birth defects.

Julianne Kelly – SNHS, DIP(Nutrition) PHYS (Physical Therapist)
Julianne is a qualified Nutritional Therapist and also a qualified Physical Therapist. She has worked with the Medilite Program for the past 5 years. She has a number of years experience in the weight loss industry and has seen many patients through to achieve their goal weight. Previous to working in the weight loss industry Julianne worked as a Physical therapist, during this time she realised the injuries and health risks to overweight patient and decided to take time to put more energy into the nutritional aspect of health with the help of her experience as a physical therapist. She has attended Bariatric conferences in the states and has a great relationship with many Cork GP’s in helping them maintain the health and well being of there obese patients.
